Topcon provides breath shields to prevent the spread of COVID-19

June 1, 2020

In March 2020, amid the worldwide spread of COVID-19, Topcon’s sales companies provided breath shields* for free to slit lamp users.

To prevent the spread of COVID-19, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention of the U.S. says limiting face-to-face contact is the best way to prevent infection, and the required distance is at least 2 meters.

However, ophthalmologists cannot maintain this distance because they must be in close contact with the patients during the examination.

Topcon provided breath shields for free for products such as slit lamps, which have difficulties maintaining a social distancing with a patient. Slit lamps, which are microscopes referred to as stethoscopes of the eyes, are used to examine the cornea and back of the eyes. In addition, we have provided products and services such as equipment compatible with remote diagnosis and online learnings, meeting the needs of the users amid COVID-19.
