Topcon Positioning Systems and Topcon Electronics receive bronze medal ratings from EcoVadis

May 8, 2025

Transparency is a key component of sustainability. An example of Topcon’s commitment to transparency is engagement with third-party ratings, such as assessment by EcoVadis, a world-leading company on the subject. Recently, both Topcon Positioning Systems (TPS) and Topcon Electronics (TELE) received their annual scorecards from EcoVadis and were recognized within the top 35% of submissions, receiving bronze medal ratings of scores, both in the 82nd percentile.

Thomas Hansen, Vice President of Global OEM for the Positioning Solutions Business Unit (PSBU), commented, “Topcon has made significant progress since our first Eco Vadis rating in 2021. Our OEM customers value these improvements, and they are reflected in our Supplier Scorecards with many major OEM accounts. Strong compliance and continued improvement are becoming a requirement for current and future OEM relationships. It shows Topcon is future proofed for upcoming regulations and can remain a valued supplier.”

In examining the scorecard graphic, the black indicator represents an industry average for that theme, based on industry designation and country, while the color indicates relative performance strength based on policies and evidence. The assessment process involves the submission of relevant policies and reports from processes to serve as proof points in determining the relative strength of a company’s commitment to sustainability through evaluation of their Policies (25%), Actions (40%) and Results (35%) over the 4 Themes of Environment, Labor and Human Rights, Ethics and Sustainable Procurement.

“By re-evaluating the EcoVadis scorecard, we have objective proof that we have successfully improved our management system in the area of environmental protection and sustainability. We have also seen that we have a good chance of further reducing our carbon footprint by relocating our factory into the new production building in 2026,” said Sebastian Nolte, Director of Operations and Quality for the TELE organization.

Results are weighted to consider the company size, country, and industry for measures of industry risks and comparative strengths. The questionnaire examines 21 different criteria.

TPS began participating in this process in 2021 at the request of OEM customer John Deere, and results are incorporated into our annual supplier scorecard. TELE began reporting in 2024 upon request by OEM customer AGCO. In addition to OEM, many of our Construction Key Account clients, such as Bouygues,  Strabag and Vinci group are interested in understanding these scores in support of their own sustainability assessments.

The Sustainability team would like to thank the many people and departments who helped us identify policies and locate proof point examples through our respective reporting processes to earn these respectable scores.
