Discontinuation of Social Courtesy Gifts and Small Promotional Items in Compliance with APEC Kuala Lumpur Principles
The Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC), in which the Japan Federation of Medical Devices Associations (JFMDA) participates, has established the Kuala Lumpur Principles (KL Principles)—ethical guidelines for interactions between the medical device industry, healthcare professionals, and patients.
In alignment with these principles, JFMDA revised the Medical Device Industry Promotion Code on April 11, 2024, with implementation effective January 1, 2026.
Accordingly, we will discontinue the provision of social courtesy gifts and small promotional items to healthcare professionals and institutions to further enhance transparency in our relationships.
Examples of items to be discontinued:
- Social courtesy gifts (e.g., souvenirs, seasonal gifts, congratulatory flowers, condolence offerings)
- Promotional items (e.g., novelty goods such as pens and notebooks, event souvenirs, calendars)
We appreciate your understanding and cooperation as we continue to uphold the highest standards of ethics and transparency in our industry.
