Singapore’s Minister for Social and Family Development and Second Minister for National Development visited Kobe Training Center

April 3, 2018

On March 13th, 2018, Topcon invited Mr. Desmond Lee, Singapore’s Minister for Social and Family Development and Second Minister for National Development, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of National Development, CEO of the Building and Construction Authority (BCA), and other government officials, in total 13 persons, to Kobe Training Center (one of our 4 training centers). We explained the details of our solution for “i-Construction”, using actual construction machines in its demonstration site, and elaborated on our operation of our training centers.
“i-Construction” means challenge of Japan Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism (MLIT) to digitize the whole construction 4 processes such as Surveying, Design, Construction, and Inspection under ICT in order to improve productivity in Japanese construction industry.

MMD is intensively interested in the productivity improvement under “i-Construction” initiated by MLIT, one of Japanese ministries. In order to let them feel remarkable improvement in productivity, we demonstrated differences in operation between the conventional construction way and ICT construction driven by “i-Construction”.
We also explained our operation of training centers where we are making utmost efforts to realize “i-Construction” down to earth among our customers by providing education and training of Surveying and Construction. We strongly believe that our establishment of training centers will be decisive in driving “i-construction”. This is one of reasons why we entreated them to come all the way to Kobe Training Center from Singapore.

At Kobe Training Center, we presented the overview of ICT construction which Topcon has developed for more than 20 years since 1985, the current status of “i-Construction”, and the latest “i-Construction” case studies.
Their discerning questions animated our presentations and discussions on “i-Construction”.
They experienced our remote control of Machine Guidance system of excavator in our presentation screen as well. We also summarized our 3D measurement products such as 3D Laser Scanner, Mobile Mapping System, and Drone Survey.
On the other hand, with regards to BIM, we have introduced some software created by ClearEdge3D company, which Topcon just acquired last month, to them as one of our BIM software solutions.
As Singapore is a well-developed country for BIM, they are ardently interested in our wide range of Topcon 3D consistent solutions from our hardware to software.

In 1979, Topcon has opened Topcon Singapore, the 3rd subsidiary sales company in the world, after the U.S. and the Netherlands. Since then, Singapore has been an important country to cover our sales activities in South Asian and Southeast Asian countries.
We are honored to receive their visit to our Kobe training center and we sincerely believe that Topcon is able to have a lot of opportunities to contribute to Singapore to improve their productivity of building and construction industry under our close relationship.
