Topcon “Value Line” Autosteering Solution“Topcon “Value Line” Autosteering Solution” has been selected as a winner of the Good Design Award 2025, organized by the Japan Institute of Design Promotion (JDP), a public interest incorporated foundation.
Key Points from the Jury’s Evaluation
The design was highly commended as a groundbreaking solution to critical issues in agriculture, such as the decline in the farming population, the need to reduce workloads, and the slow renewal of agricultural machinery. With a clear focus on developing an automatic steering unit that can be retrofitted to older machines used by small-scale farmers—who make up a large portion of Japan’s agricultural sector—the product was created based on extensive user research. Its product configuration, steering wheel design, minimal number of operation buttons, and simplified on-screen interface make it easy to use even for elderly users and those unfamiliar with IT technology. Including its affordable pricing, the design is expected to serve as a catalyst for fundamentally transforming the working environment of many farmers.

About the Good Design Award
The Good Design Award is Japan’s only comprehensive design evaluation and commendation system. Established in 1957, its “GOOD DESIGN” symbol mark—commonly known as the “G Mark”—has since become widely recognized both in Japan and abroad as a mark of excellence in design. The award evaluates not only the visual beauty of a product, but also how design creates value for people, society, and the environment.
