Topcon Positioning Group announces a partnership of distributor Topcon Positioning Spain with the Geodesy and Surveying College of the Polytechnic University of Madrid. A new classroom has been introduced, where teachers, students and professionals, along with Topcon will share knowledge, experiences and develop new business.

“Topcon has always been close to educational institutions, with the aim of building partnerships between the business and academic world through its Educational Partnership Program, and encouraging students to see first hand the latest technology through instrumentation systems and positioning acquisition 3D data, for example,” said Javier Peñafiel, national sales manager for Topcon Positioning Spain. “The University and Topcon have in fact, collaborated for many years with partnerships, business practices, Ph.D. programs, and more, and this program further continues the spirit of that collaboration.”

Launched May 6, the Topcon classroom was conceptualized to become a platform that provides development and knowledge for the latest technologies. Through this collaboration, the College will use Topcon equipment for educational purposes and in research projects that each student must present before completing their degrees.

Dr. Jesús Velasco, director of the Geodesy and Surveying College, has high regard for the Topcon approach and considers the relationship essential for quality training of students with the latest technology.

“It is the most important geomatics and surveying program in Spain today, and a clear reference for the sector, as most people who are industry benchmarks have come out of our school,” Dr. Velasco said. “It was essential to create an approach to the business world, which has finally been achieved after years of collaboration with Topcon, a global technology leader in surveying instruments. So it is an honor to have a Topcon classroom in the Madrid College.”

The classroom is used as a multipurpose space where both the College and Topcon will conduct activities such as outreach, development, research and training.
