Topcon Corporation（hereinafter referred to as “TOPCON”, Headquarters: Itabashi, Tokyo; President and CEO: Satoshi Hirano）has acquired 51% shares of Mehra Eyetech Private Limited (hereinafter referred to as “MEPL”), a sole distributor for the TOPCON Ophthalmic equipment in India. This partnership is the next step to strengthen the sales in the growing country, India.

MEPL was formally established on 1st September 1989 as a Eyetech Industries to distribute high quality ophthalmic medical equipment to the ophthalmologists, optometrists and the optical shops in India. Since then, its business has been expanding rapidly and steadily with the rise of Indian market. Both parties have agreed further action to cooperate and expand the business in this growing market, and Topcon has decided to make investments to fulfill this same goal.

The population of India is expected to overtake China within the next several years and become the world’s largest country. Due to this population growth and the rapid economic growth, India is facing some social issues such as an increase in medical expense, a lack of ophthalmologist, an increase in diabetic patients. In such circumstances, the demand of diagnosis equipment such as OCT or screening or a remote diagnosis method are greatly anticipated.

TOPCON will develop this growth strategy that centers on OCT and the ICT solution with the aid of strong sales network of MEPL.
